Kathrine Lovell was born in Sydney Australia, but was brought up in New Jersey. She now works and lives in Tiverton Rhode Island. She came to Rhode Island to attend RISD where she received a BFA in painting. Her father is a scientist. Her mother is an artist, a painter, a great watercolorist. There have been entrepreneurs and artists in her family for centuries. Her great grandfather had a business where he used to sell his paintings in grammar school to his class mates. On her mother’s side, they were stone carvers for cathedrals in the 16th century. Her Great Grandmother drew, made patterns, and created for her store. Her uncle was a graphic designer in England, and his brother was a very good painter. Everyone in their family has had some kind of leaning towards the visual arts. So Kathrine doesn’t know when art hit her.
Art hit her before she knew it was something. She always loved to draw and was entertained by drawing. She drew all the time as a kid, made up stories for myself with pictures. In 4th grade she remembers doing art projects for other kids because she couldn’t get enough just doing her own. When she was about ten, her mother let her use her paints and she also painted with her. This was very exciting to her, though she can’t remember what they painted, but she loved the feeling of mixing color and of the brush. Watching the paint pour off the brush onto the paper made her so excited. She’s still crazy about that.
