Bernard Willington Wall Art

Bernard Willington’s early wishes to become an artist were thwarted by the need to find work to contribute to the family finances in a period of national severity. He grew up in the industrial heartland of South Wales during the WW2. He studied engineering and qualified as a design engineer in 1962. While at the college, he studied art history and painting in his spare time. From the 1970's to the early 80's, his work took him to West Africa, South America and the Middle East, always accompanied by his painting equipment and sketch book. On returning from two years in West Africa in 1984, he gave up his engineering career and became a full time painter. Four years later, work came to the attention of the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews. This was when he was working on a view of the town from the links.

The Old Course Hotel commissioned him to paint a 3ft by 7ft version of the same view for one of the hotel’s public rooms. The painting was later taken to join others in a collection in Tokyo. Today Willington divides his time between his studios in Wiltshire in the south of England and in Augusta, Georgia. Other artistic services provided by the artist include the creation of series paintings in fields such as industry, sport, and city and town development. He produced the series in collaboration with academics, historians, and others who are knowledgeable in the particular fields or subjects. Willington is available for commissions.
