Janet Tava Wall Art

Janet Tava (Born in 1956) is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts from where she obtained a degree in painting. She later on, after graduation, studied at Parsons School of Design and at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She was later enrolled at the School of Visual Arts to complete her Masters’ Degree. She has spent much of her career has been spent in United States corporation in the position of Studio Head Designer. Her art has been featured in several prominent domestic living and architectural magazines. Her medium of choice has been acrylic paint; she uses foil paper and employs a hand-screening process. She often uses up to two-thousand sheets of tissue paper on one canvas to create an attractive surface. While asked to comment on her work, Janet says, she feels her work is a representation for her soul... airy, light, and constantly changing.

In 1985, the Sakura Collection, one of her fabric and wallpaper presentations was introduced to the press. Janet finds inspiration for her work from the small corner of wood block and an antique fabric; it is her understanding of this small visual image that becomes her final creation. Janet's first position was when she worked with Karl Mann Studio. Here, she ran the Orientalia painting department for more than 10 years, creating works for such clients as the Saudi Arabian and South African Embassies and in the Plaza Hotel in the Roscoe Executive Suites. She honed her painting techniques and decorative techniques, using ancient Chinese designs in award-winning and innovative hand-painted textiles, wallpapers and murals.
