Sally Gall Wall Art

Sally Gall (Born 1956) was born in Washington, D.C. She attended Reed College from where she received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1978. After her graduation, she settled in Houston, Texas. Until recently, Sally worked solely in black-and-white, with her subject being nature. In 1987, she moved to New York City. In the mid-1980s, she completed Diana camera images, an extensive series of European formal gardens. The artist is known for her corporeal construal of nature in which she combines her vision with her impressive printing skills. Sally’s work describes the visible world with an experiential rather interpretation. For over 25 years, the artist has maintained her interest in landscape. She emphasizes different aspects of nature through her various series. In the early 1980s, she created many bodies of work based on her travels in France, Bequi, New Hampshire, Bali, Scotland, and Brazil.

One in awhile Sally incorporates the human figure in her work. She photographs the body as an extension of nature rather than as a figure study or portrait. In 2007, she created the Crawl Series in which she closely examined tiny creatures such as butterflies, spiders, and worms, living in extended and close proximity to a formerly agricultural environment in Italy. In 2009, she came up with another series, Web, where she returned to black-and-white photography where she captured the details of complex spider webs with abstract precision. Sally has been a great source of inspiration to both practicing and upcoming artists.
